Earth on 'Catastrophic' Path, Running Out of Time: UN Report

A new UN report on the global emissions targets states that the planet is heading towards a 2.7 degrees rise in temperature by the end of the century. The UN Secretary-General termed the situation as ‘catastrophic.’ According to the report, there will be a 16% increase in global emissions by 2030 in comparison to the 2010 level, this will lead to a warming of 2.7 degrees above the pre-industrial levels before the year 2100.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said that there is a high chance of failure of the COP26 (conference of parties) scheduled to be held in Glasgow, in November this year. He also urged all nations to set out more ambitious climate targets, known as NDCs, to make the 1.5 degrees goal more realistic.
