Environmental clearances keep Ken-Betwa from finalizing

One of the most awaited projects; the Ken-Betwa river link( KLBP) is set to launch on the 192nd anniversary of Rani Laxmibai. It stands at cross roads with respect to environmental approval due to the wildlife clearances involved.

The Ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEF) and officials of water resource department (WRD) from both Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have clearly stated that the violations of stage 1 forest clearing will not be allowed. The Forest Clearing guidelines as stated by the Government deny any kind of encroachment or annexing of the Forest land or its boundaries.

KBLP multipurpose project includes Daudan dam, Lower Orr, Kotha barriage, and Bina complex. The forest area that will be engulfed under the Daudhan dam and link canal is amounted to 6017 hectares. The conditions also demanded transferring the land to PannaTiger Reserve, and bringing 3 of tiger reserves Nauradehi, Rani Durgavati And Ranipur wildlife sanctuary under the Project Tiger, before initiating the project.
