Modhera: India’s first 24x7 solar-powered village

Modhera Solar Village is located in the Mehsana district of Gujarat, India. It is known for its innovative use of solar power for various applications such as irrigation, cooking, and lighting. The village has been transformed into a model solar-powered village, utilizing a mix of off-grid and on-grid solar systems. The village is also a popular tourist destination, with the Modhera Sun Temple, an 11th-century Hindu temple, being one of the main attractions. Overall, the Modhera Solar Village serves as an important example of how renewable energy can be harnessed to transform rural communities and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Nature Walk at Kamla Nehru Zoological Park, Ahmedabad

An engaging nature walk was organized in Pune City on the 19th of March 2023. Around 60 students from community learning centres (CLCs) along with the coordinators took part in it.

An engaging nature walk was organized in Pune City on the 17th of February 2023. Around 60 students from six community learning centres CLCs along with the coordinators and some of their parents took part in it.

Nature Walk

An engaging nature walk around the most famous garden of Bangalore City was organized on the 29th of January 2023. Around 60 students from two CLC – Varthur and Bidderhalli along with the coordinators and some of their parents took part in it.

Know Your Waste Campaign

In one of our target cities, Ahmedabad, a waste management campaign was launched from November 21 to November 28. “Know Your Waste” was the session's theme, and it focused on defining the most fundamental distinctions between different sorts of waste, as well as the straightforward methods for treating each type. The eighth-grade kids were chosen as the target group because their curriculum includes lessons on various sorts of garbage. As a result, they already have a basic understanding of them. Students showed up for the sessions and enthusiastically participated in the activities organized throughout the campaign.

Photography campaign

A photography campaign was conducted on-ground across different Community Learning Centers (CLCs) located in Bengaluru, Pune, and Ahmedabad. The campaign was conducted in three sessions in each of the 13 Community Learning centers, with more than 500 school-going children participating in the sessions in the three target cities. The session's theme was "Know Your Surroundings," which was organized to raise awareness about climate change and its impacts on our surroundings among school-going children.

Virtual Quiz Competition

An interactive virtual quiz series was conducted to raise Awareness and Engagement (Climate change awareness by increasing the excitement quotient). The Quiz series is aimed to do the same and intended that children will learn and engage in understanding climate change and its impact on our daily lives. With this knowledge-generating initiative Children will also learn about the adaptive changes, they can inculcate in their lives to deal with the effects of climate change.

Waste to Wonder

Waste to Wonder Park is a theme park in New Delhi which emphasizes on waste management and renewable energy. All 7 wonders of the world have been recreated from scrap material from auto rickshaws, cars, ships, metal fans, rods, nut-bolts, iron sheets etc. A total of 150 tonnes of waste has been used to build up these structures. The Waste to Wonder Park was constructed within a span of six months by five artists, seven supplementary artists and 70 welders. Even the washrooms in the park are built from old ship containers.

Heatwaves in Delhi

June is the peak of the summer season, and Delhi is bearing the full brunt of the heatwaves. Temperatures have regularly crossed 47 degrees celsius. Parts of Yamuna have dried up ,and citizens are finding ways to battle this brutal onslaught of heat.

_VOIS PLANET Initiatives: Painting competition

_VOIS Planet conducted a painting competition on 13 February 2022 on the theme, 'Clean & Green City of my Dreams' to encourage the spirit of environmentalism among school children and youth.Children between the age group of 5-18 participated in the competition. _VOIS Planet received 450 entries on how the students visualised the problem of pollution and envisaged solutions for their cities.Here, we showcase the top ten paintings that won praise from the judges for artistic creativity and understanding about environment. We hope that such events will strengthen the sense of dedication towards environment among the children as they grow up into responsible adults.
