Mumbai's public transport, BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport), is getting a major eco-friendly upgrade! Thanks to a ₹928.65 crore grant from the municipal corporation, BEST will soon add 2,000 new, environmentally friendly buses to its fleet.
This welcome addition comes at a total cost of ₹2573 crore, with the World Bank and state government stepping in to cover 70% and 25% respectively. The remaining 5% will be funded by the municipal corporation itself. Currently boasting 2941 buses, BEST's fleet is set to experience a significant and sustainable expansion.
This initiative comes at a crucial time, as BEST grapples with financial challenges. The government's assistance is seen as a lifeline, paving the way for smoother operations and a brighter future. Beyond economic benefits, the new buses promise a greener outlook for Mumbai. By opting for eco-friendly alternatives, BEST aims to not only reduce operating costs but also contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment for the city.
In a nutshell, Mumbai's public transport system is taking a major leap towards sustainability with the addition of 2,000 eco-friendly buses. This not only addresses BEST's financial needs but also signifies a crucial step towards a cleaner and greener future for the city.
