IMD predicts Heavy Rainfall and Persistent Heatwaves in several states

India is currently experiencing significant weather extremes, with the IMD predicting extremely heavy rainfall in several states while heatwaves persist in regions like Uttar Pradesh and East India. This duality of weather conditions requires diverse preparedness strategies to mitigate health and safety risks.

A weather forecast has been issued indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall over Maharashtra and Coastal and North Interior Karnataka throughout this week. Concurrently, heatwave conditions are anticipated over Northwest India starting today. These heatwave conditions are also expected to affect east and central-east India, Uttar Pradesh, and northeast Madhya Pradesh this week.

Heavy Rainfall Precautions:

1. Stay Informed: Regularly check weather updates and heed local advisories.

2. Flood Safety: Avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding. Ensure your home is equipped with emergency supplies.

3. Travel Caution: Refrain from unnecessary travel. If travel is essential, choose safer routes and avoid waterlogged areas.

Heatwave Management:

2. Protective Clothing: Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and use sunscreen to protect against sunburn.

3. Cool Environment: Utilize fans, air conditioners, and cool showers to maintain body temperature.
