On the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation and highlighted the significance of a holistic approach and sustainable lifestyle to curb climate change impacts. He pointed out India’s connection with nature and said, “We are the people who know how to live with nature and we know how to love nature.” He added that our ancestors have provided us with the legacy and the solutions to combat the ongoing climate crisis.
During his address PM also highlighted the LIFE mission which was announced on the occasion of World Environment Day, 5 June 2022. The LIFE Movement (Life for the Environment) Global Mission was launched with the objective to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle across the globe. “When we talk about an environment-friendly lifestyle and the LIFE mission, we attract the attention of the world," he said.
The PM touched upon the significance of chemical-free and organic farming and highlighted the need to conserve water. He said, “A voice should come from each of my fields that we will move forward by saving water by focusing on 'per drop more crop'. It is our duty to do chemical-free farming, organic farming, and natural farming. " He also highlighted that natural farming can also give rise to green jobs in the country and can boost the self-reliant mission.
While emphasizing the urgency of becoming self-reliant in the energy sector, PM Modi urged private stakeholders to boost their reliance on green energy. “We should be self-reliant in the fields of solar energy, wind energy, and various other renewable energy sources like Mission Hydrogen, biofuel, and electric vehicles," he added.
