MOL group, an international integrated oil and gas & petrochemical consumer retails company of Hungary which has come together with Plug Power, a leading supplier of turnkey hydrogen solutions to establish one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen production facilities at the MOL’s refinery in Danube, Szazhalombatta.

“Green hydrogen addresses two issues facing humanity: climate change and energy independence, stated Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug.

Gabriel Szabo, executive Vice President of Downstream at MOL Group said, “This new technology allows the introduction of green hydrogen production at Hungary, which makes MOL group one of the most important players in the sustainable energy economy in the region,”.

By utilizing 10 megawatt electrolytic unit from Plug Power, MOL’s 22 million Euros facility could be able to produce an average of 1600 tons clean and carbon neutral green hydrogen yearly.

The unit is expected to be operational in 2023, and the green hydrogen produced will be utilized by MOL in its Danube Refinery during fuel production of its own hydrogen system.
